Course Overview

It addresses how to develop the skills and attributes you need either to make a successful transition into a portfolio career or simply to take up a non-executive director role during your legal career.

Designed by lawyers for law firms and in-house legal departments, this is an interactive online group course of five sessions of 1.5 hours each week and one optional 1:1 60-minute coaching session within one month after session 5.

Create a career plan to make a successful transition from full-time employment into an independent, freelance, non-executive director or consultant career.
Develop an online presence to support your new career direction.
Review your career successes and translate them into skills and case stories.
Demonstrate the right mindset to secure your first non-executive director or consultancy contract and ensure you have a healthy pipeline of work.

Who Should Attend?

This course is tailor-made for lawyers considering the transition from full-time employment into a non-executive director career.

Our Approach

This online program is highly flexible and will be created to match your own pace and working style. It uses the latest online technology. Full instructions will be given to facilitate easy access. You will receive PowerPoint slides and a recording of each session. Each session is available to download for one month after the original session. Once downloaded, however, you can keep and review the content, at your leisure, as often as you like.

Your Facilitator

This program is led by Niall Foster, a highly experienced professional skills trainer, well versed in the ways of on-line group work. At each session, Niall will be joined by contributors who will add their perspective and experience.

Session 3: Find Roles

Handle ‘gatekeepers’ and search for roles in target sectors.
Successful networking.
Align your CV and cover letter with the job description.

Session 4: Prepare for Interview

Key Topics

Prepare and answer probing questions concretely and concisely.
Use reference stories to build confidence in your abilities.
Demonstrate competence – do your due diligence.

Session 5: Boardroom Relationships

Key Topics

Demonstrate your understanding of critical business issues.
Use emotional intelligence.
Create active references.

Session 6: 1:1 Application Session

Key Topics

60-minute 1:1 coaching session with one-course facilitator/contributor at an additional fee of $300.
