Course Overview

This Entrepreneurial Leadership Training Program is designed to provide functional heads and leaders with entrepreneurial business skills and knowledge to develop a winning vision and commercial strategies that gives shareholders value and creates competitive advantage. Entrepreneurship, or being commercial, for leaders matters.

How should leaders make commercial decisions and ensure these become the road maps for developing good execution tactics and measures? How should leaders address evolving leadership needs in areas such as governance, recruiting commercial successors, strategic planning and organizational effectiveness that minimises waste and maxims performance etc?

In an increasingly volatile (digital) marketplace organizations will have to adapt fast to survive. Entrepreneurial, commercial, thinking rather than just technical or functional expertise is more critical. Leaders and decision makers must rethink the way they handle risk to maximize growth and financial returns. Risk is defined as anything that prohibits strategy goals from being attained. Strategy competencies that includes entrepreneurship for leaders has changed from a “nice to have” to a fundamental requirement.

Target Audience

Entrepreneurial Leadership Training Program is designed for executive leaders, functional heads, decision makers and managers with potential for promotion into strategic leadership roles.

Training Methodology

This highly practical and results-oriented program is based on adult learning concept. The facilitator will give plenty of input and then help participants to make sense of the themes through discussion and practice. It incorporates short inspiring demonstrations, role play and much practice to enhance learning. There will be ample time for Q&A, discussions with ‘return to work’ action planning. The course will reinforce key concepts within an inspiring and engaging learning environment.

Pre & Post course assessments will be used to measure the effectiveness of this training and measure the skill and ability of participants.

Module 1 - Your Impact as an Entrepreneurial Leader

On Day One we find out the attributes of commercial leaders

An overview of an entrepreneurial leader’s role and responsibilities
Gain the competencies to adjust your understanding and use of commercial skills
Understand business commercials and how to create effective strategies that align with these
Minimizing risk – reduce poor strategic choices and failure to execute the organization’s vision and strategic plans
Know typical critical business challenges or PAINs

Module 2 - Being Commercial

On Day Two we look at commercial realities that entrepreneurial leaders should demonstrate

Commercial responsibilities of executives
Commercial challenges and typical solutions
Key commercial/financial terms
Knowing what’s important to your stakeholders and keeping them on side

Module 3 - Creating Value

On Day Three we reflect on current/emerging entrepreneurial trends

Key Topics

Being a leader who achieves business advantage
Challenge established thinking (that’s bad)
Keep up to date with business trends
Contribute to the business strategy with a clear view of the impact commercial business results
Understand commercial risks and demystification of common commercial buzzwords into understandable common sense language

Module 4 - Managing Financial and Strategic Performance

On Day Four we look at the first of ten characteristics across your organization to know you are adding value

Produce Total Shareholder Returns (TSRs) in the top tier vs. peers
Help your organization and its business units meet internal and external financial performance commitments linked to achievement of the organizational goals
Ensure each business unit has a superior business model that results in value-creating differences relative to peers
Create a superior organization strategy that creates competitive advantage from its portfolio of business units
Help each business unit to manage customer value and cost-to-serve to maximise economic value (EV)

Module 5 - Managing Organizational Performance

On Day Five we look at the final five characteristics interventions to improve organizational performance

Create a high performance culture where teams have superior capabilities to manage for value and are rewarded for value creation
Create strategy development and agenda management processes ensure that all decisions are fact-based and value-maximising
Employ a rigorous business performance management process to ensure delivery against agreed strategies and performance commitments
Create a structure that establishes clear accountabilities and line of sight for “value creation”
Manage an organisation’s use of management information and technology creates distinctive competitive advantage
