Module 2 - Practical Safety Leadership

- Management techniques for having difficult conversations and leading safety
- Case study: ‘Under the influence’
- Developing a Reporting Culture
- The difference between a near miss, safety hazard and incident
- The accident pyramid and the link between at risk behaviour through to fatalities
- What stands in the way of people reporting near misses, personal strategies to encourage better near miss reporting?
- How to conduct practical safety observations to reward positive safety behaviour and identify at risk safety behaviour
- Safety interventions, distinguishing between three levels; (1) Direct intervention – when there is imminent danger; (2) Coaching session – when at risk behaviour is observed; (3) Empowerment intervention – providing positive feedback on good safety practices
