COURSE OVERVIEW
This Security Awareness Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) Training Course builds awareness of vital security policies, procedures, and individual behaviours by using relevant case studies and the experience and knowledge of the trainer. True to Life examples are presented that add relevance and increase learner comprehension. The main aim of this course is to provide a better understanding of the security risks in a high-risk environment by all employees who can then make the correct operational decisions and lower security risk.
This Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) Training Course training course will provide the Port Facility Security Officer with the necessary training to meet their obligations under the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code. The Port Facility Security Officer must ensure that they are meeting the correct maritime security requirements by implementing stringent security measures.
The course is compliant with current IMO requirements and based on best practices.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The training course on PFSO and Maritime Security aims to help participants to develop the following critical objectives:
Those who successfully complete this course should be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities as Port Facility Security Officer, as defined in ISPS Code A/17.2, which include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting an initial comprehensive security survey of the port facility, taking into account the relevant Port Facility Security Risk Assessments;
- Ensure the development and maintenance of Port Facility Security Plan;
- Implementing and exercising the Port Facility Security Plan;
- Undertaking security inspections of the port facility and surrounding environment to ensure the continuation of appropriate security measures;
- Recommending and incorporating, as appropriate, modifications to the Port Facility Security Plan in order to correct areas of risk and to update the plan to take into account relevant changes to the port facility;
- Enhancing security awareness and vigilance of the port facility and its personnel;
- Ensure adequate training has been provided to personnel performing port facility security duties;
- Reporting to the relevant authorities and maintaining records of occurrences that threaten the security of the port facility;
- Coordinating implementation of the Port Facility Security Plan with the appropriate Company and Ship Security Officer(s);
- Coordinating with security service, as appropriate;
- Ensuring that standards for personnel responsible for the security of the port facility are met

Port Operations Staff who have been, or are likely to be, appointed as Port Facility Security Officers under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

TRAINING METHODOLOGY
This PFSO and Maritime Security training course will combine presentations with instructor-guided interactive discussions between participants relating to their individual interests. Practical exercises, video material and case studies aiming at stimulating these discussions and providing maximum benefit to the participants will support the formal presentation sessions. Above all, the course leader will make extensive use of case examples and case studies of issues in which he has been personally involved.
Pre and Post-course assessments will be used to measure the effectiveness of this training and the pre and post skill and ability of participants.
