COURSE OVERVIEW
Oil is among the most important energy sources in the world and because of its uneven distribution, it is transported by ships across the oceans and by pipelines across the lands. This has resulted in several accidents in the past while handling or transferring oil during transportation and breaking of pipelines while drilling, at ports, and in drydock facilities. All spills have an impact on the environment and human health; however, the severity depends on the quantities of spills, the location of spills, surrounding ecosystems, etc.
Most countries have legislation in place for the management of spills, which includes prevention as well as preparedness and response. This course is designed to explain the key aspects required for the management of marine oil spills. This course focuses on the complex but vital responsibilities of oil spill management.
