COURSE OVERVIEW

Special Core Analysis plays a crucial role in reservoir characterisation, management, and optimisation in the oil and gas industry. More than three-quarters of current additions to the world’s reserves come from better management of existing reserves. Core-based measurements offer the most tangible and direct means of determining critical reservoir parameters. By providing detailed insights into reservoir properties and fluid behavior, SCAL helps maximize hydrocarbon recovery, optimize production strategies, and minimize operational risks, ultimately contributing to the economic success of reservoir development projects.

This Special Core Analysis SCAL course will help you learn about rock properties, wettability, and capillary pressure. Delegates will understand various functions and measurement methods of Relative Permeability and Residual Oil Saturation. The course will help you enhance your electrical properties, NMR, and formation damage knowledge. We elaborate on Geomechanics, Core Flooding Experiments, and Advanced Applications. Participants are given hands-on problems and practical laboratory and field examples throughout the course. The course will cover the basics to the advanced level of Special Core Analysis SCAL.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By completing the Special Core Analysis SCAL Course, the attendees should be acquainted with:

  • Design coring programs and maximize core recovery
  • Preserve core to minimize rock alteration
  • Take and analyze sidewall cores
  • Coring process
  • Correlate core and log data
  • Rock typing and routine core analysis.
  • Computed tomography (CT) scan evaluation
  • Wettability determination and applications
  • Capillary pressure experiments, corrections, and practical aspects
  • Residual oil saturation measurements (lab vs. reality)
  • Relative permeability experiments and applications
  • NMR core analysis
  • Electrical properties measurements and interpretation: techniques.
  • Waterflooding applications
  • Core flooding experiments
  • Geomechanics tests
  • Core analysis program

TARGET AUDIENCE

This Special Core Analysis SCAL training is suitable for a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit Reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, exploration and development geologists, core and log analysts, geophysicists, drilling and completion engineers, and oil company research and development staff.

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

This training utilizes various proven adult learning techniques to ensure maximum understanding, comprehension, and retention of the information presented. The program will be interactive and practical. There will be work in groups and pairs as well as individual exercises and everyone will get an opportunity to discuss their issues with Advanced Special Core Analysis SCAL applications.
